SUMMARYIn Microsoft Word you can toggle field codes on and off. To do this, click Options on the Tools menu (in Word 98 Macintosh Edition, click Preferences on the Tools menu), click the View tab, and click to select (turn on) or clear (turn off) the Field Codes check box. To quickly toggle field codes display, press ALT+F9 (OPTION+F9 on the Macintosh).

NOTE: When you add the ViewFieldCodes button to a toolbar and field codes are toggled on or off with the keyboard (ALT+F9), the button does not show the new state of the field codes until you move the insertion point or clicks the mouse.

Word 98 Macintosh EditionFor more information about shortcut keys you can use when you work with field codes, click Contents And Index on the Help menu, click the Index button in Word Help, type the following text
Fields, shortcut keysand then click Show Topics. Select the "Keys for Working with Fields" topic, and click Go To. If you are unable to find the information you need, ask the Office Assistant.
Word 97 for WindowsClick the Office Assistant, type "shortcut keys," click Search, and then click to view "Shortcut keys." NOTE: If the Assistant is hidden, click the Office Assistant button on the Standard toolbar.
