SYMPTOMS
When you record a macro, the mouse pointer does not change to a cassette
tape as it does in Word for Windows. When you record a macro in Word for
the Macintosh, the mouse pointer will change to a transparent, outlined
arrow.
NOTE: The standard mouse pointer on the Macintosh is a black-filled arrow.

To record a macro in Word, start the macro recorder and perform a sequence
of actions. You can then run the macro whenever you need to perform this
sequence of actions. When you are recording a macro, you can use the mouse
to click commands and options, but the macro recorder doesn't record mouse
movements in a document window.
To Record a Macro, use the appropriate procedure for your version of
Word.
Word 6.x for the Macintosh
- On the Tools menu, click Macro.
- In the Macro Name box, type a name for the macro.
- In the Macros Available In box, click the template in which you want to
store the macro.
- In the Description box, type a description for the macro.
- Click Record.
- If you don't want to assign the macro to a toolbar, menu, or shortcut
key combination, click OK to begin recording the macro.
To assign the macro to a toolbar, click Toolbars. Click the macro you
are recording, and drag it to the toolbar you want to assign it to. In
the Save Changes In box, click the template in which you want to store
the changes, and then click Close to begin recording the macro.
To assign the macro to a menu, click Menus. In the Change What Menu box,
click the menu you want to assign the macro to. In the Position On Menu
box, click to select the position you want the macro to appear on the
menu. In the Save Changes In box, click the template in which you want
to store the changes, and then click Close to begin recording the macro.
To assign the macro to shortcut keys, click Keyboard. Click the macro
you are recording. In the Press New Shortcut Key box, type the key
sequence. In the Save Changes In box, click the template in which you
want to store the changes, and then click Close to begin recording the
macro.
Word 98 Macintosh Edition
- On the Tools menu, do one of the following:
In Word 98, point to Macro and then click Record New Macro.
- In the Macro Name box, type a name for the macro.
- In the Store Macro In box, click the template or document in which
you want to store the macro.
- In the Description box, type a description for the macro.
- If you don't want to assign the macro to a toolbar, menu, or
shortcut keys, click OK to begin recording the macro.
To assign the macro to a toolbar or menu, click Toolbars. In the
Commands box, click the macro you are recording, and drag it to the
toolbar or menu you want to assign it to. Click Close to begin
recording the macro.
To assign the macro to shortcut keys, click Keyboard. In the
Commands box, click the macro you are recording. In the Press New
Shortcut Key box, type the key sequence, and then click OK to begin
recording the macro.
- Perform the actions you want to include in your macro.
- To stop recording your macro, click Stop Recording.
