WD: Numbers Entered in Form Field End with 0 (Zero)

SYMPTOMS

When you type a large number in a Form Field, the number changes. For example, if you type the number

   2222333344445555

the result is:

   2222333344445600

Furthermore, if you type more than 256 numbers, Word converts them all to zeros.

CAUSE

Form Fields keep track of 14 significant digits. All other numbers after the fourteenth digit are converted to zeros. Form Fields cannot hold more than 256 numbers.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1:

Change the Form Field Options Type from Number to Regular Text so that the number you type is not changed.

Method 2:

In the Form Fields Options Number Format List, select the current format and press the DELETE key. This removes the number formatting and allows all the numbers you type to display.

STATUS

This behavior occurs when the form field type is Number, and any Number format is selected. This problem was corrected in Word version 7.0 for Windows 95.

MORE INFORMATION

The maximum number of digits that can be typed in a form field is 256. The maximum number of non-numeric characters that can be typed in a form field is 32767.
