WD: Procedure for Positioning Text Over Graphic Incorrect

SUMMARY

Two important points are missing from the "Adding text to a graphic (Full Menus)" section on page 116 of the "Microsoft Word: Reference to Microsoft Word" Version 4.0 manual:

  1. The positioning option for Vertical in the Position dialog box cannot be In Line. Any of the other options will work correctly. Final positioning can be fine-tuned in Print Preview.

  2. The width of the paragraph must be entered in the Paragraph Width box in the Position selection under the Format menu. If Auto has been selected, the paragraph width is as wide as the default width and the text will not appear centered over the graphic.

Step 3 of this section should read as follows:

  1. Choose Position from the Format menu. Use the options in the Position dialog box to set the Horizontal and Vertical positioning. Vertical positioning can be Top, Center or Bottom only. Enter the width of the text/paragraph in the Paragraph Width box.
