If your Word document contains paragraph marks formatted as hidden text, the Replace command on the Edit menu does not replace the hidden paragraph marks with non-hidden paragraph marks.
CAUSE
The hidden/non-hidden formatting option was not selected in the Replace With dialog box.
To replace paragraph marks formatted as hidden text with paragraph marks formatted as non-hidden text, follow these steps:
1. On the Edit menu, click Replace.
2. In the Find What box, type ^p.
3. Click Format and then click Font. (In Word 2.0, click Character.)
4. Click to select the Hidden check box and then click OK.
"Format: Hidden" appears beneath the Find What box.
5. In the Replace With box, type ^p.
6. Click Format, and then click Font. (In Word 2.0, click Character.)
7. Click to clear the Hidden check box and then click OK.
"Format: Not Hidden" appears beneath the Replace With box.
8. Click the Find Next, Replace, or Replace All button.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word listed at the begining of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows and Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.
