When you add or modify an AutoCorrect entry, Word for the Macintosh unexpectedly quits (in other words, the application closes).
Word may quit if you paste more than 31 characters in the Replace or With boxes under Replace Text As You Type in the Tools AutoCorrect dialog box.
When you type (rather than paste) in the box, Word beeps and prevents you from typing more than 31 characters. This problem does not occur when you create or modify the AutoCorrect entry manually. However, Word does not prevent you from trying to insert more than 31 characters in this box when you paste the characters from the Clipboard.
If you paste text in the Replace or With boxes in the Tools AutoCorrect dialog box, be sure you do not paste more than 31 characters.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
