XL: Object Browser not Available Until Module Sheet Is Loaded

Last reviewed: September 13, 1996
Article ID: Q152758
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you try to bring up the Microsoft Excel Object Browser using the Object Browser toolbar button on the Visual Basic toolbar, the Object Browser may not be displayed.

CAUSE

The Object Browser will not be displayed if no Visual Basic module sheets have been opened during that session of Microsoft Excel.

RESOLUTION

When you open a Microsoft Excel workbook that has a module sheet or if you add a module sheet to a workbook, Visual Basic for Applications is initialized and the Object Browser will then be available. If you do not have a module sheet in any open workbooks, on the Insert menu, point to Macro, and then click Module.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel version 5.0, a module sheet must be the active sheet in the active workbook in order to view the Object Browser. In Microsoft Excel version 7.0, a module sheet does not have to be the active sheet in order to view the Object Browser, but you must have at least one module sheet in any of your open workbooks.
