WD98: First Use of Print Preview Takes Longer Than SubsequentLast reviewed: February 17, 1998Article ID: Q177616 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSThe first time you view a document in print preview, you may have to wait longer than you will the next time you use this view. This longer waiting time occurs each time you start Word. To view a document in print preview, click Print Preview on the file menu.
CAUSEPrint preview produces, as accurately as possible, a what-you-see-is-what- you-get (WYSIWYG) screen image. To create a WYSIWYG screen image, Word must combine the services of the Macintosh Operating System, the printer, the screen, and fonts. Because Word needs the printer to aid in producing a WYSIWYG view, it must first establish a connection to the printer. In Word for Macintosh version 6.x, a printer connection is made during Word initialization. However, this causes longer start times for Word 6.x. In Word 98 Macintosh Edition, the connection to the printer is made the first time it is needed. For example, when printing or when choosing Print Preview. Subsequent uses will take less than half the time to initialize.
