  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SUMMARY

This article describes the file converters that are shipped with Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, so that you can save a file and an earlier version of Word can open it.

MORE INFORMATION

During a normal installation of Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, file converters are installed which allow you to save a file in the following formats:

  • Word 4.0 for Macintosh
  • Word 5.0 for Macintosh
  • Word 5.1 for Macintosh
  • Word 6.0/95 (Windows & Macintosh)

NOTE: The file format for Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition is the same as the file format of Microsoft Word 97 for Windows, so no converter is required.

If for some reason one or more of these text converters are not installed, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for installation instructions:

Example: Saving a File in Word 6.0/97 Format

  1. In Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, open the file you want to save.

  2. On the File menu, click Save As.

  3. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the new file.

  4. In the "Save Current Document as" box, type a new file name (unless you want to use the original file name). In the "Save File as Type" list, click to select Word 6.0/95, and then click Save.
