WD98: WMF/EMF Pictures From Word 97 Convert IncorrectlyLast reviewed: February 3, 1998Article ID: Q180095 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a Microsoft Word 97 file that contains a Windows Metafile (WMF) or Enhanced Metafile (EMF) picture in Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, the picture may be converted correctly the first time, or you may see one of the following symptoms:
CAUSEWord for Windows saves a Blip Store Entry (BSE) with each graphic. The BSE identifies the graphic type (WMF, EMF, PICT) for the current platform (Windows or Macintosh). When you load a file that contains WMF or EMF pictures in Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, the file is not completely read into memory until you scroll through the entire document to view each picture. If you do not scroll through the document, the pictures are not converted to PICT format and they will change to a big red "X" when the document is saved.
RESOLUTIONAfter you open the document in Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition, scroll to the end of the document so that all the images will be displayed before you save the file. This process will convert the images from WMF or EMF format to PICT format.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATIONPICT is a raster format specific to the Macintosh platform. Windows Metafile (WMF) is a raster format that can contain vector data specific to Windows.
