If there are more than 255 third-party fonts (such as TrueType or Adobe Type Manager) installed on your machine, Microsoft Word for Windows lists only 255 fonts. Other Windows-based applications list all installed fonts.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. This problem was corrected in Word version 6.0 for Windows. Word 6.0 for Windows allows you to access up to 32,767 fonts.
To obtain new or updated Microsoft products, call the Microsoft Sales Information Center at (800) 426-9400. If you are outside the United States, contact the Microsoft subsidiary for your area. To locate your subsidiary, call Microsoft International Customer Service at (425) 936-8661.
When more than 255 fonts are installed, all versions of Word for Windows do not list all the available fonts. In this situation, Word for Windows may list one or more fonts twice. The more fonts installed beyond 255, the more duplications there will be.
