XL5: &[File] Not Printed Correctly in Custom Header/FooterID: Q124893
|
In Microsoft Excel, if you create an embedded chart on a worksheet and apply the &[File] in the chart's custom header or footer, an asterisk (*) will be displayed in print preview and will be printed in the header or footer.
To display the Sheet Name and Chart Name in the header of an embedded chart in Microsoft Excel, change the "&[File]" in the header or footer to "&[Tab]". To display the actual filename, convert the embedded chart to a separate chart sheet.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in
Microsoft Excel version 5.0c.
NOTE: When using Microsoft Excel version 5.0c with embedded charts, you
will need to convert the embedded chart to a separate chart sheet to
display the &[File] information.
This problem occurs in worksheets created in Microsoft Excel 5.0 that have
embedded charts. It also occurs in worksheets with embedded charts created
in Microsoft Excel version 4.0 that have been opened in Microsoft Excel
version 5.0.
In a Microsoft Excel version 4.0 chart, the "&F" in a header or footer
pastes the file and chart name. When Microsoft Excel version 4.0 files are
converted to version 5.0, the "&F" becomes an "&[File]". If the chart is a
separate chart sheet, this conversion will correctly show the filename. In
a version 5.0 embedded chart, "&[File]" displays an asterisk (*) in the
chart's header or footer. In Microsoft Excel version 5.0c, the "&[File]"
displays the Sheet and Chart Name.
