The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
The FileAssist dialog box extending program included with Symantec's Norton Desktop version 3.0 for Windows is not compatible with Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Excel mentioned above. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
The FileAssist program included with Norton Desktop for Windows, version 3.0, adds file management functions to the bottom of the Open, Save, and Save As dialog boxes of many applications that run in Microsoft Windows.
FileAssist is not compatible with Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0. This incompatibility does not prevent FileAssist from working with other applications, nor are any error messages displayed because of the incompatibility: the FileAssist features are simply not available in the Open, Save, and Save As dialog boxes in Microsoft Excel version 5.0.
FileAssist is compatible with Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0 and 4.0a.
