SYMPTOMS
When the versions of Microsoft Excel for Windows mentioned above are installed on a computer running the Windows NT operating system, the computer based training (CBT) components are not installed.
CAUSE
The CBT that ships with Microsoft Excel for Windows is designed to run under Microsoft Windows version 3.1 and will not run properly under Windows NT. Microsoft Excel version 5.0 Setup will detect the Windows NT operating system and will bypass the CBT portion of Setup. The EXCELCBT directory is not created and the CBT files are not installed.
An error message is not generated to alert you that the CBT has not been installed.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the versions of Microsoft Excel mentioned at the beginning of this article. We are researching the problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
NOTE: You still have the option to run the tutorial from the Help menu if you installed Excel 5.0 from the Office CD (16 bit), and specify "Run Excel from CD" during the setup. The tutorial will run without errors messages, but much of the video graphics will not display correctly, or at all.
