In Microsoft Excel, when you open a Multiplan file that contains an external link that references a blank cell, you receive a general protection (GP) fault in module XLCONVMP.DLL.
This behavior occurs because Microsoft Excel expects all referenced cells in the Multiplan file to contain data. If any of the referenced cells are blank, you receive a GP fault. The problem occurs whether the cells are referenced using a named range, or the cell references.
To avoid receiving a GP fault when you open a Multiplan file that contains data copied from another file, do either of the following:

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in a later version of Microsoft Excel.
When you open a Multiplan file that contains a link to a name on another worksheet, the link appears as a formula array. The following example represents a link to the name Test on the Multiplan worksheet SRC.MP4:
='C:\EXCEL\FILES\SRC.MP4'!TEST
