In Microsoft Excel, when you create an embedded chart from data in a pivot table, and the chart overlaps the pivot table data, if you drag data from the pivot table to the chart, the data may move to a different location in the pivot table, instead of being added to the chart.
This behavior occurs if the embedded chart is positioned on top of any part of the data area on the pivot table, and you drag pivot table data to a location in the pivot table that is under the chart, before dragging the data to the chart.
If the border that is displayed to indicate the size and location of the data that you are dragging is behind the embedded chart just before you drag the data to the chart, the data is not added to the chart.
To add the pivot table data to the chart, instead of just moving the pivot table data, drag the data directly to the chart, instead of dragging it to another location in the pivot table first.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in a later version of Microsoft Excel.
