XL5: Renamed Pivot Table Field Cannot be Reset
ID: Q104438

The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
-
Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0
When you create a pivot table in Microsoft Excel 5.0, you can change
the names of the displayed fields and categories. For example, if you
are creating a report, it may be useful to provide names that are more
descriptive than those you originally used in your list. However, once
you've entered a new name, it cannot be automatically reset by
choosing the Refresh Data command from the Data menu or by running the
PivotTable Wizard again. The only way to automatically reset the field
and category names is to choose the Undo command from the Edit menu
immediately after you enter the new name.
To return the new names to their original names, you must manually
type and enter them or create a new pivot table. Note that when you
change field and category names, the integrity of the data is not
affected. The data will be correctly updated when refreshed regardless
of the name changes.
