SYMPTOMS
========

When the MTA is processing a message, the following error messages may be logged
in the Application event log:

   Event Type: Error
   Event Source: MSExchangeMTA
   Event Category: Internal Processing
   Event ID: 2050
   Date: 11/9/2001
   Time: 8:51:03 AM
   User: N/A
   Computer: <server_name>
   Description:
   A fatal internal MTA error occurred. Contact Microsoft Technical Support. An
   illegal PUT to element 7020B601 occurred at offset 89. [BASE DISP:ROUTER 10
   69] (16)

   Event Type: Error
   Event Source: MSExchangeMTA
   Event Category: Internal Processing
   Event ID: 2051
   Date: 11/9/2001
   Time: 8:51:03 AM
   User: N/A
   Computer: <server_name>
   Description:
   A fatal internal MTA error occurred. Contact Microsoft Technical Support. An
   illegal GET from element 7020B601 occurred at offset 1. [BASE DISP:ROUTER 10

RESOLUTION
==========

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems
that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional
testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft
recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 service pack
that contains this fix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services
