When you save a workbook to a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site while in Microsoft Excel 97, the option to "Always create backup" does not work. However, after you save the file a second time, a file by the following name is created:
Backup of <File name>.xlk
where <File name> is the name of the file you are saving.
To create a backup to an FTP location, save the file to the FTP site and then immediately click Save As on the File menu and save the file with a different name. The first file you saved is the backup, and the second file is the working copy.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
