If you copy a drawing object from a Microsoft Excel 97 workbook that is open in the Microsoft Excel 97 Viewer, nothing may happen when you try to paste the object into other programs.
There is no work around for this behavior in the Microsoft Excel 97 Viewer. If you want to copy a drawing object from a Microsoft Excel 97 workbook and paste it into another program, you will need to open the workbook in the Microsoft Excel 97 program and copy it from there.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
In the Microsoft Excel 95 Viewer, you can copy a drawing object from a Microsoft Excel workbook and paste it into another program. If you want to use a Microsoft Excel 97 workbook with the Microsoft Excel 95 Viewer, you must save the Microsoft Excel 97 workbook in the Microsoft Excel 95 format. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start Microsoft Excel 97.
2. Open the workbook that you want to save in the Microsoft Excel 95
format.
3. On the File menu, click Save As.
4. In the Save As Type box, select Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 (*.xls), and then
click Save.
