XL97: Hang While Editing Formula Directly in a Cell

If you delete part of a formula while editing it directly in a cell, Microsoft Excel may stop responding (hang).

The problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

You edit a formula directly in a cell.

    -and-
```
You press DELETE while the insertion point is at the beginning of the formula.
```
    -and-
```
You make another change to the formula after deleting the equal sign.

To delete part of a formula that begins with the equal sign, edit the formula in the formula bar instead of directly in the cell.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
