When you use the keyboard shortcut, ALT+V, to view a sample chart in step 1 of the Chart Wizard, a sample of the chart does not appear.
When you press ALT+V, the focus in the dialog box is moved to the "Press and hold to view sample" button. This behavior is consistent with dialog box behavior in Microsoft Windows 95.
To use your keyboard to view a sample chart in step 1 of the Chart Wizard, do the following:
1. Press ALT+V.
This moves the focus to the "Press and hold to view sample" button.
2. Press and hold the Spacebar.
A sample chart appears in the dialog box.
This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 97.
You do not have to be in step 1 of the Chart Wizard to view a sample chart in Microsoft Excel 97. If you create a chart, and then want to view a sample of the chart, do the following:
1. Select the chart if it is embedded, or select the chart sheet.
2. On the Chart menu, click Chart Type.
3. In the Chart Type dialog box, edit the chart as needed.
4. Press ALT+V to move the focus to the "Press and hold to view sample"
button.
5. Press and hold the Spacebar to view a sample of the changes.
6. Click OK (or press the TAB key until the OK button has the focus and
then press ENTER).
