When you place your mouse pointer over a control which has been placed on a worksheet, the mouse pointer may not change into a small hand.
Placing the mouse pointer over an ActiveX control placed on a worksheet will not change the mouse pointer into a small hand.
This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 97.
In Microsoft Excel, there are two types of controls that you can insert on a worksheet: controls on the Forms toolbar and controls on the Control Toolbox toolbar. When you insert a control from the Forms toolbar on a worksheet, your mouse pointer becomes a small hand when placed over the control. By default, placing your mouse pointer over a control inserted on the worksheet from the Control Toolbox toolbar will result in the Normal Select pointer. In either case, clicking the control with the changed mouse pointer as indicated above will activate the control.
The controls available on the Control Toolbox toolbar are known as ActiveX controls. The ActiveX controls that are available on the Control Toolbox toolbar are the same controls that you can add to UserForms you create using the Visual Basic Editor.
For more information about ActiveX Controls, click the Index tab in Microsoft Excel Help, type the following text
controls
and then double-click the selected text to go to the "Add buttons, check
boxes, or other controls to a worksheet" topic.
