In Microsoft Excel 97, a worksheet appears differently if you click Zoom on the Standard toolbar and select a value that is less than or equal to 39 percent.
In Microsoft Excel, you can click Zoom on the Standard toolbar to reduce or enlarge the appearance of the active worksheet. You can specify a zoom value that is between 10 percent (text appears one-tenth the normal size) and 400 percent (text appears four times the normal size).
NOTE: If you select or type a zoom value that is 39 pecent or less, the following changes in the graphical appearance of the worksheet are noticeable.
In Microsoft Excel 97, it is not possible to display gridlines when the zoom value is 39 percent or less. When you select a zoom value of 40 percent or greater, gridlines reappear. Note that cell borders are displayed at all zoom settings.
In earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, gridlines are displayed at all zoom settings unless you manually disable them.
When you set the zoom setting for a worksheet to 39 percent or less, a defined name that consists of a cell range of two or more adjacent cells appears in a rectangle on the screen.
For example, if the defined name Range1 refers to the range D1:E20, a rectangle that contains the word "Range1" appears over the cell range. The values of the cells in the named range appear in the rectangle.
NOTE: When you click Zoom on the Standard toolbar and type a value of 40 percent or greater, rectangles that identify named ranges automatically disappear.
This feature is not available in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel.
