SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, you cannot use the COMMAND key or the CONTROL key to select nonadjacent items in a list box that has its Selection Type set to Extend.
CAUSEThis problem occurs because of the way in which Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition uses the COMMAND and CONTROL keys:
RESOLUTIONThere is no workaround for this problem in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition. Note that you can still use the SHIFT key to select multiple, adjacent items in a list box that has its Selection Type set to Extend.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
