SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you open a workbook that contains a data map, the data map is imported as a picture and appears in black and white. If you double-click the data map, you receive the following error message:
Cannot start the source application for this object. There may not be enough memory available. CAUSEThese problems occur because Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition does not include support for data maps. Data maps are temporarily converted into pictures when you open them in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh.
STATUSThis behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

If you open a workbook that contains a data map in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, the following dialog box appears:
Graphics Filter Converting: MetafileWhen the workbook opens, the map appears as a black and white picture. If you select the picture, the formula bar contains a formula similar to the following:
=EMBED("MSMap.8","")If you save the workbook in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition and then reopen the workbook in Microsoft Excel for Windows, the data map appears in color and opens for editing when you double-click it.
