ACC: Query Error "The Replication ID you entered is invalid"

ID: Q160753

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

When you run a query in an unreplicated database, you may receive the following error message:

The replication ID you entered is invalid.

CAUSE

You used braces ({}) instead of brackets ([]) around an object name in your query.

NOTE: This error message also occurs if you include braces ({}) instead of parentheses (()) around the arguments of a function or procedure.

RESOLUTION

Open the query in Design view and replace the braces with brackets.

MORE INFORMATION

Brackets are often placed around the name of a table, field, form, or parameter when you create a query in Design view. If you use braces instead of brackets, Microsoft Access tries to interpret the text between the braces as a globally unique identifier (GUID). Microsoft Access uses GUIDs in replicated databases. If the text inside braces is not a valid GUID, an error occurs.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.

2. Create a new query in Design view based on the Order Details table.

3. Type {Order Details}.OrderID in the Field row of the query.

4. Run the query. Note that you receive the error message.
