SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to start Microsoft Zoo Tycoon for the first time, your computer may
stop responding, and the game does not start.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior may occur if the Microsoft DirectX file is damaged.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, download the latest version of DirectX from the Microsoft
Web site, and then install it in safe mode.

NOTE: Because it is a system component, DirectX runtime cannot be removed without
reinstalling your operating system.

To download and install the latest version of DirectX, follow these steps:

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:

   http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/default.asp

2. On the DirectX Downloads Web page, click the Web link that is appropriate for
   your operating system to download the correct version of DirectX.

3. In the "Language used" list, click a language, and then click Go.

4. Click the "Download now" link.

5. When you are prompted with the question "Do you want to open the file or save
   it to your computer?" click Save, specify a location, and then click Save.

6. When the download is complete, restart your computer in safe mode.

   the related topic in Windows Help.

7. Right-click Start, click Explore, browse to the location of the DirectX file
   that you just downloaded, and then double-click the file to begin the
   installation.

8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

9. Restart your computer in normal mode.
