SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to install Microsoft Streets & Trips, you may receive an error
message similar to the following:

   Streets & Trips 2002 has generated error 1714, an older version of
   Streets & Trips has been detected.

CAUSE
=====

This problem may occur if an earlier version of Streets & Trips is still
installed on your computer, or if files remain from an earlier version of
Streets & Trips that has been removed.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this problem, install and run the Windows Install Cleanup utility to
remove the earlier version of Streets & Trips, and then install Streets
& Trips 2002. To do this, follow these steps.

Part 1: Install the Windows Install Cleanup Utility:

1. Insert the Streets & Trips 2002 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
   drive.

   Hold down the SHIFT key to prevent the program from starting automatically.

2. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.

3. Right-click the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive that contains the Streets & Trips
   CD-ROM, and then click Explore.

4. Double-click Support.

5. Do one of the following:

    - If you run Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft
      Windows Millennium Edition (Me), double-click Msicu.exe.

    - If you run Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft
      Windows XP, double-click Msicuu.exe.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.

Part 2: Remove Any Earlier Versions of Streets & Trips:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click the shortcut for the Windows
   Install Cleanup utility.

2. On the list of installed programs, click "Streets & Trips 2000" or
   "Streets & Trips 2001", and then click Remove.

3. When the removal process is complete, click Exit.

Part 3: Install Streets & Trips 2002:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be
different on your computer. If they are, please see your product documentation
to complete these steps.

1. Insert the Streets & Trips 2002 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

2. Do one of the following:

    - If the installation process starts automatically, go to step 6.

    - If the process does not start automatically, continue with the next step.

3. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

4. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

5. Click the Install/Uninstall tab, and then click Install/Uninstall.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
