XADM: MSExchangeMTA Errors When Many Connections Are OpenID: Q140976

The Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent (MTA) fails to send messages
when it needs to connect to a large number of other MTAs. The following
message appears in the Windows NT Event Log:

shortage. There are no available Kernel Control Blocks.

When Microsoft Exchange Link Monitors are in use, there is an increased
chance of seeing this problem because they produce a large number of
concurrent connections.
This problem will occur in an environment where there are lots of MTA's, in
other words, in a large Organization or a large Site.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0 U.S. Service Pack 2. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
