XADM: Rebuilding the Site Folders in a Site
ID: Q152960
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Exchange Server, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5
SUMMARY
This article provides the steps necessary to create new site folders in a
site. Because the folders are re-created, the data contained in the
original site folders is lost.
It may be necessary to rebuild the site folders (that is, the Offline
Address Book, Schedule+ Free Busy Information, and Organizational Forms) if
the first server in the site is removed without following the
procedures in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q152959 How to Remove the First Exchange Server in a Site
MORE INFORMATION
Below are the steps to rebuild the site folder in your Microsoft Exchange Server
site; following the steps is information on repopulating the site
folders with data.
To rebuild the site folders:
- Obtain a copy of the utility Guidgen.exe. This utility is available in
the Microsoft Developers Network under the product samples. If you do
not have access to this utility, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services. The Guidgen.exe utility randomly generates a globally unique
identifier (UID) that is used to rebuild the site folders.
- Start the Guidgen.exe program, and select Option 4, Registry Format.
- Click New GUID.
- The new GUID number is displayed in the RESULT box. Copy or write down this number; you need it in step 10.
WARNING: Using the raw mode of the Exchange Server Administrator program (admin /r) incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows NT Server and/or Microsoft Exchange Server. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of raw mode can be solved. Use raw mode at your own risk.
- Start the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program in raw mode. Go to the command line, change to the Exchsrvr\Bin directory, and
type admin /r.
- Click to expand the Configuration object of the site you want to rebuild, and then select the Information Store Site Configuration object.
- On the File menu, click Raw Properties.
- In the Object Attributes window, scroll down to Site Folder GUID, and click it.
- Click Editor.
- Replace the existing GUID number with the number generated in step 4 (enter the value in hexadecimal), and then click OK.
- Click SET, and then make sure the Edit Value
and Attribute Value are the same.
- Click OK to close the dialog box.
- In Control Panel, double-click Services, and then stop and restart the Information Store service.
Repopulating the Site Folders with Data
Offline Address Book
To repopulate the Offline Address Book site folder:
- Start the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program.
- Click to expand the Configuration object, click the DS
Site Configuration object, and then on the File menu, click Properties.
- Click the Offline Address Book tab, and then click Generate Offline Address Book Now.
Schedule+ Free Busy Information
The Schedule+ Free Busy Information site folder is repopulated as
users log on to Schedule+ and generate changes. During this period some
users' Free Busy information is temporarily unavailable. This applies
to Outlook clients as well. Free Busy information for Outlook clients is
kept in the Schedule+ Free Busy folder.
NOTE: Each site in an organization needs an instance of the new Free Busy folder so that everyone can see everyone else's Free and Busy time.
Organizational Forms
If there was an Organizational Forms site folder before the first server was removed from the site, you must re-create the folder using the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program.
- Start the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program.
- On the Tools menu, click Forms Administrator, and then click New.
Any forms that existed before the first server was removed must be re-installed into the Organizational Forms folder. Re-creating the
Organizational Forms folder may have adverse affects on the other servers
in the site. For more information, please see the following article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Q152958 XADM: Organizational Forms Unavailable to Other Servers in Site
NOTE: The server you are connected to through the Microsoft Exchange
Administrator program (that is, the server that appears in bold type under
the Servers container) becomes the new home of the site folders after you complete the steps above.
