Web Publishing with FrontPage May Cause WWW Service to HangID: Q187732
|
When you are using the publishing features of FrontPage with large amounts
of Web data, the WWW service may stop responding (hang), or the Windows NT
Server computer may run out of virtual memory.
The event log may contain various access violation error logs and possibly
other error logs reporting that the FrontPage extenders have responded
with "server error: the server timed out."
Also, this publishing process may generate the "parse errors in the
directory\_vti_cnf\filename.htm" error message in the application log in
Event Viewer, and publishing stops.
IIS will not be responsive to the Internet Service Manager or the Services
component of Control Panel. In order to restart the Inetinfo process, a
restart of the system is necessary. Or, you can run a kill on the Inetinfo
process if you have the Windows NT Resource Kit.
This is caused by a gain in the allocated memory used by the Inetinfo process. This problem has been reproduced only on SMP dual Pentium 200- megahertz computers.
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/wpp
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. This issue has been addressed in
FrontPage 98.
