Commerce Host Administrator Cannot Administer a Site Out of the Site RootID: Q229521
|
Although a Commerce site can run out of the WWW site root, it is not possible in Commerce Server 3.0 to administer a site out of the site root through the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Commerce Host Administrator or through the HTML Commerce Host Administrator.
This problem occurs because the MMC and the HTML Host Administrator use the Commerce AdminSite object to administer the sites, and the Commerce AdminSite object requires a virtual directory (VDIR) to initialize properly.
There are a few possible workarounds. The recommended option is to run the site from the VDIR created by the Site Foundation Wizard, and if necessary, set up a redirect from the Default.asp in the root Web to the Default.asp in the VDIR housing the Commerce Server site.
Another option is to leave the manager pages running from the VDIR so that departments and products can be modified. Then the shopping site can be copied to the root. Modifications must be made in order for a standard wizard generated site to run from the root. In this situation, the live site will not be able to be opened and closed through the MMC or HTML Admin.
