When you attempt to install the German version of Microsoft Personalization Server (MPS) on a computer running the German version of Internet Information Server (IIS) 3.0, the error message shown below may appear. This error message appears either during installation or when you attempt to use the voting feature of MPS.
Die Abstimmungs-Datenbank, Vote.mdb, ist erfolgreich installiert.
SetBallotName Failed. Bitte schlagen Sie in Personalization System-
Benutzerhandbuch nach, um Information zur Installierung der
Abstimmungs-Datenbank zu erhalten.
English translation:
The vote database, Vote.mdb, is successfully installed. SetBallotName
Failed. Please consult the Personalization system user manual to obtain
information on the installation of the vote database.
You may also see this error message if you are attempting to install the
German version of MPS on a computer running that is also running English
versions of Microsoft Windows NT Server, Microsoft Internet Explorer,
Microsoft Internet Information Server, or other English versions of
programs.
The German version of MPS has specific, localized ODBC drivers and other core program files that are different than those in the English version. Because of this, you must follow the steps below carefully. You cannot mix and match German and English versions of Windows NT Server, Internet Information Server, or MPS on the same server.
To resolve this problem:
1. In Control Panel, double-click ODBC and click the System DSN tab.
2. Highlight the Access Driver .mdb on the System Data Source tab.
3. In the Data source name box, type the word "vote." Below this, type a
description for the voting data source.
4. Click the Select button to choose the Vote.mdb database. This is the
location where the MPS binary files were installed (for example:
C:\Mps\Bin\Vote.mdb).
5. Click OK until you quit the ODBC application and are back in Control
Panel.
At this stage you have created the voting datasource. You should now
attempt to register a vote by starting Verify.asp:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Microsoft
Personalization System.
2. On the start page, click the installation link on the left side of the
page. This will load Verify.asp. At this point, you should be able to
enter a vote.
3. Once MPS verified has the vote you entered, start the Administration
Vote by clicking on the link on the left side of the page.
4. Once the Admin page loads, type the word "vote" in the box next to
datasource at the top left of the page.
5. Click Ballot Lookup just to the right of the box. Ballot Lookup will
find the vote you entered and show it just below in the form of an icon
of a trashcan. At this point, you have successfully entered and
verified a vote.
