Error Occurs When Changing a Property in the Membership Directory

SYMPTOMS

When you try to change an attribute of a user or object in the Membership directory (schema), the following error message may occur:

The instruction at <memory address> referenced memory at <same address> The memory could not be read.
This is a known issue with some of the components in Visual Studio 6.0.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the latest service pack for Site Server 3.0.

Note: You should not have to reinstall any Visual Studio components after you install the service pack.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Site Server version 3.0. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
