Setup Error During ServerSideConfig
ID: Q184714
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Site Server version 3.0
SYMPTOMS
When you run the Custom Starter Site (CSS) Setup wizard, the following
error may occur:
An error occurred installing a server component.
CAUSE
The error occurs during the installation of a server component. The error
message may be related to a timing issue with Microsoft Internet Explorer
version 4.0 reporting that a task has not completed, when in fact it has.
If the error message is ignored and the system continues for approximately
10 minutes, a successful installation may be completed. To verify that the
installation is successful, review the debug window. At the end of the
debugging process, it should state "We're done."
WORKAROUND
To turn on the debug mode, follow these steps:
- Download the Csseis.exe file to the computer, and then run the program
(or run the program from the download server). This installation
actually decompresses all the necessary files to the computer in the
\SiteServer\BIN\CSS\CSSEIS directory.
- Setup automatically executes the \Microsoft Site Server\Bin
\Css\Csseis\Csswizard.exe file from the local computer.
- Cancel the installation.
- Edit the \Microsoft Site Server\Bin\Css\Csseis\Csseis.inf file to add
the following setting:
FDEBUGSERVERSIDECONFIG=1
- Save the Csseis.inf file, and then run the \Microsoft Site Server\Bin\Css\Csseis\Csswizard.exe file from the local computer.
- Creation of the VROOT, uploading of the files, and FrontPage project
creation should occur with no debug window.
- During the last step, "Set up Server components for the site", the
Serversideconfig.asp file is executed. This opens the debug window and
displays the progress of the setup program for the server components.
- Do not close any windows until you can scroll down through the debug
window and see "We're Done." This is an indication of a clean server
setup. Installation time may take up to 10 minutes, depending on memory
and Content Indexing. Observe the computer's hard drive light to see if
the computer is still working. If the drive shows no activity, there
may be a problem. Serious errors are indicated by a red box inside the
debug window.
If an error is indicated, the Serversideconfig.asp file may be re-executed
manually to recreate the server components. This allows all the file
uploads, VROOT creations, and FrontPage project creation routines to be
bypassed.
NOTE: The CSS directory may have a different name depending on the type of
CSS that is installed.
The error message may appear after the FrontPage tasks are created. Do not
clear the message, but let the setup program run until you see the
completion message in the debug windows.
