IPX Winsock Proxy Clients Fail URL Access w/ Err. "Not Found"

ID: Q172139

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you use Winsock Proxy clients using the IPX protocol, the client will fail when you try to access an URL with Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), and you will get the following error message:

Not found. The requested object does not exist on this server.
The link you followed is either outdated, inaccurate, or the server
has been instructed not to let you have it. Please inform the site
   administrator of the referring page."

CAUSE

This error is due to incompatible server information made available to the Winsock Proxy client in the Mspclnt.ini file. If the client tries to use the [Server IP Addresses] name information instead of the [Server IPX Addresses] information, the client may not be able to locate the Winsock Proxy server.

RESOLUTION

1. Locate the Mspclnt.ini file in the \Clients subdirectory under

the \Msp install directory on the Proxy Server.

2. Delete the entire [Servers IP Addresses] section from the
Mspclnt.ini file, and save the file.

3. Update the client configuration files at the client system by
opening Control Panel and double-clicking the WSP Client icon.

4. Click the Update Now option in the Winsock Proxy Client dialog
box to download the client configuration files from the server
   to the client.
