ID: Q195257
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Proxy Server version 1.0
-
Microsoft BackOffice Server version 4.0
-
Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0
-
Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition version 4.0
SYMPTOMS
You may not be able to view external Web sites from a computer using
Microsoft Proxy Client software on a network connected to the Internet
through Microsoft Proxy Server 1.0. Although you can view Web pages
located on the Proxy server from a network client, and you can browse the
Internet from the Proxy server, you are unable to view external Web pages
on a computer using the Proxy Client software.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Proxy server or the network client is
configured incorrectly.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, verify that the Proxy server and network clients
are configured correctly. To verify that your Proxy server's configuration
to properly communicate with both clients and your Internet service
provider is correct:
- Ensure that the Proxy clients are communicating with the Proxy server
by running the Chkwsp32.exe program located in the clients' C:\Mspclnt
folder.
- Verify that the Enable IP Forwarding check box is not selected in the
Proxy server's network configuration. To confirm this, click Start,
point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the
Network icon. Click the Protocols tab, click TCP/IP Protocol, click
Properties, and then click the Routing tab.
- If the Proxy server has the Remote Access Server service installed,
configure the automatic dialing feature for manual startup. You can do
this by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel,
and then double-clicking the Services icon. Double-click the Remote
Access Autodial Manager service. Under Startup Type, click Manual,
click OK, and then click Close.
- Verify that the correct credentials are being used for the user name
and password in the Proxy Server Autodial configuration. To confirm
this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Proxy Server,
and then click Auto Dial Configuration. Click the Credentials tab.
If you check and confirm that the settings listed above are correct but a
client still cannot view external Web sites on the Internet, you may want
to try basic network troubleshooting.
