BUG: SQLServerAgent May Shut Down If SQL Server Is Started from the ConsoleID: Q226109
|
If SQL Server is run from the console, the SQL Server Agent may shut itself down. This problem can occur when trying to connect by means of SQL Server Enterprise Manager, but may also occur when performing certain tasks when configuring replication.
It can appear to the SQL Server Agent that SQL Server has stopped, when in fact the server is still running.
To work around this problem, start SQL Server as a service.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 7.0.
When SQL Server Agent shuts down in this scenario, the following message is dumped to the console (and to the SQL Server Agent log, if enabled) when SQL Server Agent is run from the console:
SQLServerAgent initiating shutdown following MSSQLServer shutdown
