ID: Q223169

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Local connections to SQL will show a delay of 3 to 12 seconds after dbcc Checkdb has been run multiple times. Network connections do not have a delay in establishing new connections and changing the net library or security method does not change the effect.

WORKAROUND

Run dbcc Checkdb during off hours and stop and restart MSSQLServer service prior to making new local connections.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5.

MORE INFORMATION

Running the Maintenance Wizard in SQL Server Enterprise Manager by default runs dbcc Checkdb against the database scheduled for backup. If several databases are selected, a delay in establishing local connections may occur.

Connections from Internet Information Server (IIS) running on the same computer as SQL Server and/or Scheduled tasks on SQL Server may also be affected by this.
