BUG: Service Pack 1 Setup Requires Default Named-Pipe NameID: Q237487
|
When you attempt to install SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on SQL Server 7.0 that is using an alternate pipe name, you will receive the following error message when attempting to log on using SQL Server authentication:
-and-Setup was unable to validate your password. Press Retry to re-enter your password or press Cancel to exit out of setup.
Setup was unable to validate the logged on user. Press Retry to enter another option, or Cancel to exit setup.
To workaround this problem, use the Server Network Utility, shipped with SQL Server 7.0, to reset the pipe name back to its default, \\.\PIPE\SQL\QUERY.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 7.0.
