Cannot Install Site Server 3.0 on SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

Site Server 3.0 cannot be installed using the SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Edition.

As a basic requirement of the Site Server 3.0 installation, you must install SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 4 if you are planning to use SQL Server as your database backend. However, this service pack cannot be installed on those computers running the SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Edition.

SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 4 states that this service pack should not be installed on the Enterprise Edition of the software. Currently there are no service packs available for this edition of SQL Server 6.5.

The ability to access more than 2 GB of RAM and clustering in SQL Server will be lost if this service pack is installed.

WORKAROUND

Install Site Server 3.0 with the Access version of the software.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server version 3.0.
