FIX: Cancelled Creation of Stored Procedure May Cause Error 707

SYMPTOMS

If an attempt is made to create a stored procedure that already exists and that attempt is cancelled, error 707 may be encountered.

NOTE: The parse and compile routines of SQL Server are very fast and efficient, significantly reducing the window of opportunity for encountering this issue.

When this problem occurs, the following is reported in the SQL Server error log:

Error : 707, Severity: 20, State: 2
System error detected during attempt to free memory at address 0x1248800.
Please consult the SQL Server error log for more details.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 5a for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For information about downloading and installing the latest SQL Server Service Pack, see http://support.microsoft.com/support/sql/.
