FIX: Inserts into Table with IRL Turned On May Cause Error 826

• Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5

SYMPTOMS

Inside a transaction, inserting multiple rows into a table that has the insert row lock (IRL) option set may produce the following error:

Error : 826, Severity: 20, State: 2 Attempt made to hold allocation page xx that is already in Pss pool.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, disable the IRL option on the table before starting the INSERT operation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 5a for Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. For information about downloading and installing the latest SQL Server Service Pack, see http://support.microsoft.com/support/sql/.
