PRB: Cannot Install SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition After Upgrade to Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise EditionID: Q234060
|
If you attempt to install SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition onto a computer that is running an operating system other than Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition or later, you will receive the following error message:
However, you may still receive that error message even after upgrading a computer from Windows NT Workstation or other operating system to Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition. The Enterprise Edition server component cannot be installed on Windows NT Server using this CD. Only client components will be available for installation.
SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition Setup checks the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions
If that registry entry contains any value for ProductSuite other than "Enterprise", you will receive the error message described in the SYMPTOMS section of this article. You must run Winntup.exe to correctly update this registry entry.
To work around this problem, run the Winntup.exe file from the Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition CD before attempting to install SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition.
Winntup.exe is provided on the Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition CD to upgrade a computer running Windows NT Server 4.0 to Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition. Winnt32.exe is used to upgrade a computer running Windows NT Workstation to Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition. However, after running Winnt32.exe to the successful completion of the installation of Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition, you must still run Winntup.exe before installing SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition.
