ID: Q196924
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Exchange Server, versions 5.0, 5.5
SYMPTOMS
When trying to open the property pages for the Internet Mail Service, you
may receive the error message, "Extension SMTP Could Not Be Loaded."
CAUSE
The Imcadmin.dll is causing a version conflict, and to correct the problem,
you need to find the build number of the file (file properties, or the
filever utility), and use that number for a raw mode entry change.
WORKAROUND
Do the following from the computer that is running the Exchange Server
Administrator program:
- Map a drive to the Exchsrvr directory of the computer that has the
Internet Mail Service installed on it.
- Using Windows NT Explorer, locate the Imcadmin.dll file in the following
directory: Exchsrvr\Addins\Smtp\I386.
- Select the Imcadmin.dll file, and on the File menu, click Properties.
- Select the Version tab, and write down the file version reported here.
WARNING: Using the raw mode of the Exchange Server Administrator program
(admin/r) incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to
reinstall Microsoft Windows NT Server and/or Microsoft Exchange Server.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use
of raw mode can be solved. Use raw mode at your own risk.
- Start the Exchange Server Administrator in raw mode by typing the
following at a command prompt:
C:\Exchsrvr\Bin\Admin.exe /r
- Within the Administrator program connected to the Internet Mail Service
computer, expand the Configuration container, and select Add-ins.
- In the right window, select Extension for Internet Mail Service I386.
- On the File menu, select Raw Properties.
- From the Attribute list, select File Version, and click Editor.
- Select File Version, and click OK.
- Change the build number to the build number you got from Windows NT
Explorer.
