XFOR: Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 will Allow Administrators to Disallow the Auto Forwarding of Messages to Internet AddressesID: Q176161
|
In Microsoft Exchange Server, versions 4.0 and 5.0, administrators were able
to prevent users from sending Out-Of-Office (OOF) messages and AutoReplies to
Internet addresses. However, administrators were unable to prevent users
from auto-forwarding messages to Internet addresses.
A new feature of Microsoft Exchange Server, version 5.5 will allow
administrators to configure the Exchange Server Internet Mail Service
so that auto-forwarded messages will not be delivered through the Internet Mail Service.
The Microsoft Exchange Adminstrator program has two checkboxes for the Internet Mail Service on a global and per-domain basis for preventing Out-Of-Office and AutoReplies from being sent out. The Disable AutoReply check box also means that AutoForwards are disabled. Auto-forwarded messages were not being detected since there were no special message classes or properties on the envelope like there are for AutoReplies and OOF messages. The store was modified to promote the PR_AUTO_FORWARDED property to the envelope. If this property is present, and the given domain has has disabled AutoReplies, the Internet Mail Service will discard the Auto Reply message.
