This article describes Windows CE Services File Converter and four methods of converting files on the desktop computer using Windows CE Services File Converter.

Microsoft Windows CE Services File Converter allows you to convert files to and from the Mobile Device Format without the use of Windows CE Services and without connecting your desktop computer to your Handheld PC (H/PC).
You can use Windows CE Services File Converter to convert any file type that is convertible using Windows CE Services except TrueType font (.ttf) files and Microsoft Windows font (.fon) files. You must use Windows CE Services to convert these font files.
NOTE: Although Windows CE Services does not need to be running when you convert files using Windows CE Services File Converter, Windows CE Services must be installed on the desktop computer.
To convert files to and from the Mobile Device Format using Windows CE Services File Converter, use any of the following methods:
In Windows Explorer, click to select the file or files you want to convert. Right-click the file(s) you want to convert, and then click Convert To/From Mobile Device Format. The converted file(s) is placed in the same folder as the original file(s).
In Windows Explorer, click to select the file or files you want to convert. Right-click the file(s) you want to convert, drag the file(s) to the folder in which you want to store the converted file(s), and then click Convert To/From Mobile Device Format.
On the desktop, double-click Windows CE Services File Converter, click the folder that contains the file(s) you want to convert, click the file(s) you want to convert, and then click Convert. The converted file(s) is placed in the same folder as the original file(s).
Click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then press ENTER
wcesconv /d<destination> <source>\<filename>
where <destination> is the destination drive and folder of the converted
files, and <source> is the folder in which the file(s) you want to convert
is located.
For example, to convert all .xls files in the Docs folder on drive C to .pxl files in the root folder of drive D, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
wcesconv /dd:\ c:\docs\*.xls
To convert all .xls and .doc files in the Docs folder on the C drive to
Mobile Device Format inside the same folder, type the following command,
and then press ENTER:
wcesconv /d. c:\docs\*.xls c:\docs\*.doc
NOTE: All files are converted according to the default specifications in
Microsoft Windows CE Services.
