Internet Explorer Uses LAN to Connect When H/PC Is Enabled

SYMPTOMS

When you connect a Handheld PC (H/PC) to a desktop computer, Internet Explorer may use the Local Area Network (LAN) to connect to the Internet.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you use Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to connect to your LAN.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use any of the following methods:

Configure Internet Explorer to Connect Using a Modem

To configure Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet using a modem, follow these steps:

1. On the desktop computer, click Start, point to Programs, point to

   Internet Explorer, and then click Internet Explorer.

2. On the View menu, click Internet Options.

3. On the Connection tab, click "Connect to the Internet using a modem,"

   and then click OK.

NOTE: If you restart the computer with the H/PC connected, Internet Explorer may be reconfigured to use the "Connect to the Internet using a local area network" option.

Disable the Mobile Device Connection

To disable the Mobile Device connection, follow these steps:

1. On the desktop computer, click Start, point to Programs, point to

   Microsoft Windows CE Services, and then click Mobile Devices.

2. On the File menu, click Communications.

3. Click the Enable Mobile Device Connection check box to clear it.

   NOTE: If you want to connect to the H/PC you must click the Enable
   Mobile Device Connection check box to reselect it.

4. Click OK, and then close the Mobile Devices window.
