The information in this article applies to:
When you scroll up or down in a Microsoft Word 97 document converted from Microsoft Pocket Word (.pwd) format, Word 97 may stop responding (hang).
This behavior can occur if the Word 97 document contains a table with zero-width columns.
To resolve this issue, expand the width of zero-width columns contained in the Word 97 document. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click inside the first column of the first table contained in the
document.
2. On the Tables menu, click Cell Height And Width.
3. Click the Columns tab.
4. Make sure the value inside the Width Of Column <n> box, where <n>
is the number of the column in the table, is not zero, and then click
Next Column. If the value inside the box is zero, click the up arrow
to expand the width of the column, and then click Next Column.
5. Repeat step 4 for every column in the table, and then click OK.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 for every table contained in the document.
After you complete these steps, save the Word 97 document.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed earlier in this article.
This behavior does not occur with tables created in Word 97.
